This work consists of obtaining the plans -blocked by the US Department of State- from LIBERATOR, the first gun conceived for a 3D printer, and “print” it. LIBERTADOR is the first fully 3D printed pistol (3D printing). The gun is a 100% functional firearm, and it is possible to “print” it with a printer at home when you have a MakerBot type. In May 2013, the United States Department of State, effectively removed blueprints from the network to print the LIBERATOR. At the same time, they declared all the material referring to this pistol as “property of the US Government”.
Firearms are a touchy subject in our culture. On the one hand, they are revered and on the other hand, they are condemned. Opinions are divided as to their uses and rights. Some advocate greater flexibility when it comes to allowing its portability. Others believe that its use does not guarantee anything except to increase the cycle of violence.
The regulations imposed by governments are also questioned: why should the government restrict their use? In the case of the LIBERATOR, the issue is complicated: now technology has achieved a way to democratize (up to a certain point) the possession of weapons.
