New York

1988 - 1991

This period is composed of three stages: Pre-New York (1981-1987), New York (1988-1991), and Post-New York (1991-1992). The Pre-New York stage is the first time del Paso is interested in art while studying ceramics at UCR in Costa Rica, resulting in a small body of work in ceramics and some paintings. After graduating, he gets a scholarship to study at New York’s Pratt Institute, marking del Paso’s change from potter to an artist. The “New York” period consists mostly of explorations of erotic drawings while absorbing the culture of the New York art scene of the late 80s and early 90s. Once he returns from New York (Post-New York), with all the cultural baggage of the New York art scene absorbed, del Paso dedicates himself to experimenting with different painting techniques and concepts.
