Unique in the world, the Pre-Columbian stone spheres remain a partially solved mystery. Declared in 2014 as a World Heritage Site, there has been speculation regarding its meaning and symbolism as well as its workmanship.
A possible interpretation points to an astrological use. The spheres would function as celestial maps, in which the original inhabitants of the Diquis Valley could interpret the climate, trace the course of the stars and guide themselves. We could also deduce that they had an esoteric/spiritual value and that they were made to last for millennia. They help keep the body in shape and reinforce the ZEITGEIST of our era: there is no hereafter, there is a here and now, and we must maintain perfect bodies, toned, to enjoy all the pleasures and joys that such a body has access to.
